How to sell on WhatsApp without a website
1 min read
Plenty of real businesses run entirely inside WhatsApp: home bakers, thrift resellers, plant sellers, tutors. No website, no storefront platform, no commissions. The stack is three pieces, and none of them takes longer than an afternoon.
Piece one: the front door
A click-to-chat link with a pre-filled message is your storefront entrance. It goes wherever buyers find you: the Instagram bio, the marketplace listing, the community group, the QR code on your packaging. The message does the greeting for the buyer: Hi, is this still available? for resale, Hi, I would like to order: for products. Buyers who tap a link convert at a completely different rate than buyers told to “DM for price,” because the link removes every step between wanting and asking.
Piece two: the catalog
WhatsApp Business’s catalog holds your products with photos, prices, and descriptions, browsable inside the chat. It replaces the photo-dump-per-customer workflow and quietly answers the price question before it is asked. Keep it current the way you would a shelf: remove sold items same-day, because a catalog of ghosts costs trust. The rest of the Business app toolkit around this is covered in what WhatsApp Business adds.
Piece three: payment and record
Whatever payment method your buyers already use (UPI, bank transfer, cash on delivery), the rule is the same: confirm the order in one summary message before payment. Item, price, delivery, timeline, in one message both sides can scroll back to. That single habit prevents nearly every dispute a chat-based shop encounters.
The identity that ties it together
A recognizable name makes a WhatsApp shop feel like a shop instead of a stranger’s number. Name the account like a business (the naming guide), use the same handle on Instagram where your photos live, and put the QR code on every parcel you send. Repeat customers arrive through exactly that loop: parcel, scan, reorder.
